Joint pain affects most people at one stage or another, especially later in life or often earlier for the sporty types among us. Signs of an inflamed musculoskeletal system are usually fairly obvious – pain, inflammation and swelling. These symptoms are uncomfortable and can also affect your quality of life. What starts off as a twinge can soon turn into full blown arthritis. Once you start treatment with anti-inflammatory’s you then go down the pathway of having to use other drugs to combat the side effects in the gut, liver and kidneys. We want to avoid this as long as possible and mitigate these side effects by using herbal remedies alongside and diet to assist. Fortunately, many of the herbal remedies we use have been shown to be effective anti-inflammatory’s, muscle relaxants, and pain relievers. By also making simple diet changes we can add in some key nutrients that can make a significant difference to your pain levels.

Our Arthritis Clinic specialises in helping identify your triggers and warning signs as we help you become more competent at learning how to influence your inflammation levels with foods, herbs and self-care. In your appointment we go over the foods you are consuming and determine what you should be eating for your condition, plus we teach you how to address bone, muscle and joint health with diet and supplements. We start you off on a herbal programme designed to treat your particular signs & symptoms which may include treatment of the gut, kidneys and stress. As we see you in follow ups, we see what works for you and we are able to paint you a picture of how to look after your connective tissue.

If  we don’t look after our musculoskeletal system, then our whole lives get affected by this and we tend to exercise less and less to compensate. What we need to remember is that exercise, stress and gut health influences our inflammatory levels so much so that inflammation is now thought to originate from an inflamed gut and a dysregulated microbiome. In other words if your gut is inflamed – so are you. In the long term, if the gut isn’t looked at, inflammation levels inside the body continue. We also need our gut absorbing nutrients effectively in order to feed our joints, and we need quality sleep in order to heal our connective tissue. Stress is a key player in managing pain but the catch 22 is that pain also affects sleep quality so we need to get inflammation under control. Stress and underlying gut infections are therefore one of the big things we talk about in regards to inflammation. What started off as a genetic tendency for inflammation {nature} plus a lifetime of injuries and use {nurture} means that joints, muscles and bone can deteriorate faster than the rest of us. If you want to discover how to feed your connective tissue book into see one of our practitioners today.
