Californian poppy is a safe yet effective sedative for those times when sleep seems to allude you. It is also useful for any pains within the nervous system. The alkaloids are the main constituents which pass through the blood brain barrier. It is related botanically to the red opium poppy but the alkaloids are quite different and it is not classified as a narcotic. It is useful for anxiety states and can be taken during the day albeit in a lower dose. Please talk to a medical herbalist before self-prescribing for anxiety. Caifornian poppy is also safe for children and features in our Kids tranquilizer tonic.
