$18.40 – $50.00
Essential oils are the volatile oils from the distillation of aromatic plants. Essential oils may contain as many as 10 plants per bottle!
We stock the following oils:
Helichrysum/Helichrysum italicum – Helichrusum is a valuable, floral oil prized for its sweet scent and excellent anti-inflammatory properties. It contains an interesting array of phytochemicals including Nerylacetate, Curcumene, Pinene, Caryophyllene & Selinene giving it a very unique profile. It is used in perfumery and also topically as it helps promote wound healing. Country of Origin: France.
Ho wood/Cinnamomum camphora – A relative of Cinnamon, Ho wood is floral, citrus and spice all in one! It can be a substitute for Rosewood which is endangered. It is great for inflammatory skin conditions used in a base cream. Country of origin: China.
Holy Basil/Ocimum sanctum – Holy Basil is also known as Tulsi, the sacred herb of India. This herb has a wonderful smell, you may have had Tulsi leaf tea and if so you will know it has quite an alluring taste. It is a great oil for diffusing to get the benefits of the terpenes. It contains a high level of Eugenol as well as beta-Caryophyllene & beta-Elemene. The herb can be diffused for its invigorating effects, when sick or just for the pleasant aroma. It can be an irritant to some skin types so best avoided topically. Country of Origin: India.
Hops/Humulus lupulus – Hops is the infamous herb used for brewing beer since the dark ages. Hops oil contains a Sesquiterpene called Humulene named after the plant as well as a high % of Myrcene which gives it sedative and relaxing effects on the nervous system. Traditionally Hops has been made as a tea for sleep and the oils are responsible for most of this effect, as Hops pickers will attest to! Burning Hops can help in the bedroom for those who struggle to get in a deep sleep from time to time. It does however have a rather pungent odour so its best mixed with a more pleasant smelling herb such as Lavender! Country of Origin: USA.
Hyssop/Hyssopus officinalis – Hyssop is a garden herb, both the leaves and flowers contain the oil. It has a herbacous aroma with traces of Camphor, Pine and Lavender. Herbally Hyssop is used for a cough, painful cramps and as a relaxant so burn or diffuse it when any of these conditions arise. Country of Origin: Bulgaria.

How to use essential oils:
Topically: Fragrance your own cream or massage oil. Essential oils can be applied onto the skin diluted in a nut or seed carrier oil. General guidelines for the safe dilution of essential oils recommended by the Tisserand Institute per 100ml is 14 drops (0.5%), 30 drops (1%), 60 drops (2%), or 90 drops (3%). Please note some oils are irritants and should not be used on the skin.
Diffuse: Steam diffuser’s release the oil without heating it which means that the oil lasts longer in the air. Use between 6-10 drops. Small amounts of the oils that disperse into the air absorb through the lungs into the bloodstream as has recently been shown in research. Please take care if you have a blood disorder.
Burn: Essential oils can be burnt over a tea light candle or in a burner which heats the oil and evaporates the oils into the room at a faster rate. Use 2-6 drops of oil in a burner and follow the same safety guidelines as diffusion.
Bath or Shower: Essential oils can be inhaled in the shower to help clear the sinus. Essential oils can be dispersed in the bath in either a liquid soap, shampoo, bath salt or carrier oil. Only place your oils in the bath once you are in the water to avoid the genital region coming into contact with the oils. Please do not use when kids are in the bath or if you have a skin condition. Some oils are irritant and should not be used in the bath.
Perfume: Making perfumes with essential oils is rewarding and fun. As you learn to blend you will find endless combinations that inspire you. Use a base of vodka or floral waters {hydrosols} in a spray bottle, or use Jojoba or Fractionated coconut oil as a base to make your own natural perfume. Find a beginners perfumery book to guide you.
Cleaning: Essential oils are fantastic for removing grease and killing microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and virus. Using essential oils in your home-made cleaning products is a great way to make use of oils.
