Kawakawa leaf | Macropiper excelsum | Wildcrafted
$10.00 – $50.00
Kawakawa leaf is our famous New Zealand native herb. This grows profusely in the Northern parts of the country and is one of the most well known of the Rongoa Maori tradition. It has a refreshing slightly pungent flavour that some describe as ‘peppery’ making this a particularly nice cup of tea which also gives a wee pick me up in a dose dependent manner. The leaves can easily be reused several times throughout the day and a touch of Peppermint, Ginger or Liquorice added gives another dimension to this versatile plant remedy. It has traditionally been used by Maori often blended with other herbs for all manner of ailments from Coughs, Colds, Chilblains, Circulation and Digestion due to its Carminitive action. It is also a great pick me up meaning it can be had in the evening without causing insomnia unlike the green and black teas which contain caffeine. If you haven’t tried this then do, it is quite a pleasant surprise.
All of our teas are organic or wild harvested from natural surroundings. Enjoy!
