Organic Acid {OAT} Test

Nutripath Metabolomic Mapping Organic Acid Test {OAT} is a comprehensive metabolic snapshot of a overall health with over 70 markers. These include markers for vitamin and mineral levels, oxidative stress, neurotransmitter levels, and oxalates, which are correlated with acute and chronic illnesses.

The OAT Assists in Evaluating:

• Krebs Cycle Abnormalities – OAT measures increases in krebs cycle metabolites which can indicate mitochondria energy pathway dysfunction and deficiencies in a variety of important vitamins and enzymes needed for optimal mitochondrial health (energy).
• Neurotransmitter Levels – OAT measures levels of HVA (homovanillic acid) and VMA (vanillylmandelic acid), the metabolites of the neurotransmitters,
dopamine and epinephrine/norepinephrine
• Nutritional Deficiencies – OAT includes t includes several nutritional markers, showing some essential vitamin and antioxidant levels, including vitamins B12, B6, B5, B2, and C, Coenzyme Q10, N-Acetylcysteine, and Biotin
• Antioxidant Deficiencies – OAT includes important indicators of the body’s detoxification abilities, including the cellular antioxidant glutathione levels.
• Yeast and Clostridia Overgrowth – OATS includes an evaluation of intestinal yeast and bacteria. It distinguishes between beneficial and harmful bacteria including Clostridia bacteria and Candida albicans
• Fatty Acid Metabolism – OAT measures eight specific ketones and fatty acid metabolites
• Oxalate Levels – OAT measures levels of oxalates in urine. Oxalate (and its acid form, oxalic acid), is an organic acid that is primarily derived from three sources: the diet, fungus (such as Aspergillus and Penicillium), and also human metabolism, high levels lead to kidney stones and other disorders are related to high oxalates.

We therefore recommend OAT if peoples health problems aren’t responding to the usual treatments so that we can find out more about what is happening inside the body and inside the cells.

Please discuss having an OAT test with your practitioner by doing a cost/benefit ratio. What we do know is that there is nothing quite like testing to truly reveal what is going on inside the body, and to add motivation to your health journey. Testing can direct a treatment plan, alert you to red flags (and get sent to the doctor by us), or they rule out anomalies. However tests do cost money so we generally only recommend them when indicated and after discussion with you, about the pros and cons of each test.

Test take between 3 to 4 weeks to get returned. Tests are taken at home and kits come with a full set of instructions.

Please note this test needs to be done in conjunction with a qualified practitioner and results are returned to a practitioner to be interpreted. We stock these on our website for Apothecary clients information and pricing only. If you have a practitioner and would like to order a test please send us the name and practice of your practitioner so we can fill in the form for them before you receive your test. Please also note we do not keep test kits in stock, any test ordered on your behalf will need to be ordered in and then sent. If you would like to order a test please book a 15 minute consultation with one of our practitioners so we can screen you for the test and book a follow up for your results.
