Our Skin Clinic specialises in helping you identify your triggers and warning signs as we help you become more competent at learning how to influence your skin with foods, herbs and self-care. In your appointment we go over the foods you are consuming and determine what you should be taking out and putting in. We start you off on a herbal programme designed to treat your particular signs & symptoms which may include liver function, gut health, stress levels or food allergies. As we see you in follow up appointments, we see what works for you and we are able to paint you a picture of how to look after your skin by looking at it as an organ that is affected by the rest of your body.

Signs of an inflamed integumentary system are itchy patches, dry scaly patches and redness. These symptoms are uncomfortable and can also affect the way we see ourselves. Sometimes skin problems can start suddenly and other times gradually. They can be influenced by what we eat, what season it is or as part of hormonal changes. Using topical creams usually provides some relief but we often know there are triggers but we haven’t put our finger on it clearly. The good news is that we can use herbs and key nutrients to help, and at the same time we can start identifying triggers and warning signs for ourselves.

What we need to remember is that stress, diet and gut health influences our skin so we need to start to look at the skin as a sign of what is going on inside our digestive system and blood. If our kidneys aren’t performing optimally, our skin is going to have to compensate for us. In other words if you’re not drinking enough water your waste will stat to get removed by the skin. Eliminating fat soluble waste through the liver and bile also needs to be effective. In the long term, if the skin isn’t looked at internally, inflammation levels inside the body continue to rise as metabolic waste builds up. We also need our gut absorbing nutrients effectively in order to feed our skin, and we need quality sleep in order to heal our skin too. Stress is a key player in managing skin conditions especially inflammatory skin conditions like dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis. So when we treat the skin we are really treating the kidneys, lymphatics, liver and bowel!  What started off as a genetic tendency for atopic conditions {nature} becomes a full blown allergy due to environmental triggers {nurture}.
