Solgar Theanine is produced naturally from Green tea fermentation which increases the amount of Theanine, the compound responsible for the calming and blood pressure lowering aspects of Green tea. It appears to regulate the activity of GABA the calming neurotransmitter found in our brain. Preliminary evidence suggests that taking a specific Theanine product (Suntheanine) 200 mg might induce subjective feelings of tranquility in healthy people. It has a calming effect when needed, i.e. stress or anxiety surrounding exams, flights or tragedy responds well to Theanine. Research has also suggested that Theanine has a neuro-protective action reducing damage after injury. Theanine also inhibits the effect of caffeine which is the reason Green tea doesn’t cause over stimulation.
