Valerian root is a vaulable relaxant, relaxing the digestive tract, blood vessel walls, the heart and also the mind. It is a valuable sleep tonic, aiding relaxation and inducing sleep especially when used in a higher dosage. It is also very good for nervous exhaustion caused by anxiety and restlessness. Valerian has been used to support those with traumatic disorders and after alonger period of use the herb tends to have a sticking effect where the herb doesn’t need to be used at the same dose or even daily anymore.
Valerian can be taken as a tea, in capsules, powder or as a tincture. Valerian features in our ‘Dream Weaver’ tea, our ‘Stink Root’ tonic or it can be taken in capsules if you don’t like the smell or taste. Valerian has a characteristic funky aroma that you can smell even when you uproot the plant from the garden.

Instructions | Steep 1 teaspoon of herb for 10-20 minutes. Reuse and drink 1-3 times a day for anxiolytic effect. For night time use, a stronger infusion can be made, use 1-2 teaspoons. When taking capsules please follow directions on the label. Valerian powder can be made into a nigh time milk drink with 1 heaped teaspoon. |
