Darjeeling Tea Organic | Camellia sinensis
$7.50 – $30.00
Darjeeling tea is grown in the Darjeeling region of India. It is not quite green tea and not quite black tea. It is partially fermented, but still has the benefits of green tea as it has a very high level of the antioxidant and beneficial catechins. Its taste is similar to a white tea, mild but with the flavour characteristic of black tea. This gives it a unique flavour and health benefits.
Tea has a long history of use dating back over 5000 years and been used medicinally in many Asian countries. It has now been verified by research that the antioxidants in Green tea confer health benefits to the cardiovascular system, brain, digestion and metabolic system. If we look at the number of phytochemical constituents we can see why. Green tea, which is the unoxidised leaf of Camellia sinensis, contains nearly 4000 bioactive compounds, with the health promoting effects largely attributed to the catechins, together with the flavonols which make up approximately 30-40% of green tea fresh leaf dry weight.
These effects have been shown to improve cognition, reduce cardiovascular disease, prevent certain cancers and a reduce the risk of obesity in daily users. (1) (2) (3) (4)
